Iyengar yoga typically hold the postures for longer than some other styles of yoga, from 20 seconds to three minutes depending on the pose. This allows the tissues to really lengthen and adapt areas of the body that have become stiff and inflexible over the years.
Props, such as foam blocks and straps, will be used for some postures. These will be provided. Props allow you to perform more difficult poses safely. I teach the technical aspects of each posture and highlight the anatomical parts of the body that are being worked. I often draw on other styles of yoga and try and keep the classes fresh and varied. During these Iyengar classes I often come round and adjust your position to help you get into the correct posture.
Vinyasa flow yoga is a slightly higher intensity style of yoga. Postures are held for shorter than Iyengar yoga so around 5-10 seconds depending on the pose. There is often repetition of some poses such up dog to down dog pose or static strength postures such as holding a press up or plank position.
There is less instruction during this class, and attendees typically follow and copy my lead. This class improves strength, agility, balance and endurance. It is an energetic practice derived from varied movement practices, which tones your body and disciplines your mind. Regardless of your skill level, I’ll offer modifications that accommodate you for the more challenging postures.

“I’m back doing my favorite thing thanks to yoga classes with Dave, but it was a bit of a road getting there. A few years ago I was training for ultra marathons, running sometimes up to 50 miles a week. I would quite often remark ‘I don’t know how I get away with it, but I never stretch’.
My luck caught up with me last year with the addition of cross fit to my training, which left me with numerous pains in my already tight hamstrings.
Going to a weekly yoga class with Dave has actually been nothing short of a revelation. The focus on stretching and strength is now an essential part of my
routine and has enabled me to be back running in the hills!”
